Program Overview

Duration: 15 Days
Teenagers 14-18 years | Adaptable for families with children 12+
Focus: Spanish Language Immersion + Community Service + Cultural Integration
Language Level: All levels welcome (beginner to advanced)

Base Locations

  • Medellín - City of Eternal Spring (Innovation & Urban Culture) Jericó - Colonial Mountain Town (Host Family Immersion)

 

Day 1: Arrival & Orientation

  • Airport pickup and transfer to accommodation in El Poblado

  • Welcome orientation: Safety protocols, cultural norms, and program expectations

  • Spanish placement assessment (written and oral)

  • Evening: Traditional Colombian dinner with program coordinators

  • Spanish Component: Basic survival phrases workshop

Day 2: Medellín Transformation Story

  • Morning: Guided tour of Comuna 13 with local guides

    • Street art interpretation and community resilience stories

    • Escalator system and urban innovation discussion

  • Afternoon: Spanish Class Session 1 (2 hours)

    • Introduction to Colombian Spanish particularities

    • Vocabulary for daily life and service work

  • Evening: optional Conversation exchange with Colombian university students

  • Arrival in Jericó and town orientation walking tour

    • Visit to main plaza, Basilica Menor, and local artisan shops

  • Afternoon: Meet host families with facilitated introduction activities

  • Evening: First dinner with host families

  • Spanish Component: Host family communication guide and household vocabulary

Day 5: Settling In & Community Discovery

  • Morning: Spanish Class Session 3 at local school (3 hours)

    • Grammar focus: Present tense and daily routines

    • Cultural focus: Colombian family life and meal traditions

  • Afternoon: Community mapping activity with local youth

    • Students explore Jericó neighborhoods with Colombian peers

    • Practice conversational Spanish in authentic settings

Days 6-10: Intensive Language & Service Week in Jericó

Participants must currently be 15 years to 17 years old.
